Student Veterans of America started as the client for the PRSSA Bateman Case Study Competition, which is a nationwide, student-oriented public relations competition. After winning first place at the national competition, Capstone Agency is continuing Bateman and CVA's In the Chair campaign.
Student Veterans of America exists to provide military veterans with the resources, support and advocacy needed to succeed in higher education and following graduation. The problem at the University of Alabama is not a lack of resources, but a lack of awareness of those resources. UA’s Campus Veterans Association has many benefits, such as professional networking, a study lounge as well as a supportive community for active members. However, many student veterans do not take full advantage of their potential CVA membership and its benefits. There is a lack of knowledge of how to support student veterans among traditional students and faculty and little to no advocacy for student vets among the university’s administration, faculty and diversity groups.
Overall, our goal for this campaign is to see a POW/MIA chair in various athletic stadiums at the University of Alabama. In order to raise awareness for this chair, our team wants to unite and personally connect the campus community by diving deeper and learning a little bit more about the person in the chair. We are engaging a wide variety of individuals who are willing to share their feelings about the military in order to adequately showcase the full impact of the United States Military.
