De-Stress for Success

Among the tight deadlines, constant emails and never-ending new ideas at Capstone Agency, agency members have a lot on their to-do lists. Capstone Agency is a student-run integrated communications firm, with extra emphasis on the student. Often a member’s schoolwork clashes with agency work, leaving the member racing the clock and overwhelmed. If this sounds like you, have no fear. Here are a few things to remember that will help any stressed-out agency member get through even their most hectic days.

  • Take a five-minute break. Yeah, that’s right—stop. It may sound difficult to carve even five minutes out of your day, but taking breaks here and there is necessary. Try to remove all stimuli during these breaks and give your eyes, ears and brain a bit of rest. With the following increase in productivity and focus, spending five minutes on a break pays for itself.

  • Write it all down. Every thought, daily task or deadline that you know you need to meet should be written on the same sheet of paper. Even include things like your daily cleaning, cooking dinner and walking your dog, since these also occupy your time. From there, prioritize. With a visual reminder of what to do and when to do it, you will be ready to tackle the challenge.

  • Remind yourself that what you do matters. This can be hard to remember, especially with so many people contributing to the same projects. Keep in mind that you may only be one person, but you are talented beyond belief. You wouldn’t be in Capstone Agency otherwise. Make every assignment your best, because what you do will be seen, will be heard and will be appreciated.

  • Always say “I can do it. The greatest motivator you can have is yourself. If you believe that you can finish a task (or two, or three!), you are much more likely to complete it. Be confident in your abilities and set your goals high. With a can-do attitude, you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve.
