A Year of Remote Operations

By Lawson Colgate

Firm director here, coming to you remotely, of course!

March marks a whole year of Capstone Agency operating remotely. If you asked me this time last year where I thought the agency would be a year from now, I would’ve nervously told you that I hoped it would still be running. Today, I can confidently tell you that we are up and running not only remotely but successfully too!

A year of remote operations has been more than the agency simply operating remotely. From the transition to a virtual working environment to new positions, clients and everything in between, this year the agency, along with myself, have grown tremendously.

Here’s the past 12 months in one minute:

  • The agency transitioned to remote operations turning to Zoom and Slack as our primary sources of communication.

  • A DEI Director was introduced to the agency. Over this year she has gone above and beyond, working with our firm leadership, directors and communications team to educate our members and target audience on diversity, equity and inclusion.

  • A word of the year was established to encourage mindfulness among our members as they embarked on another semester in the agency.

  • An internal attendance policy was created to increase attendance in pre-professional organizations and hold each other accountable.

  • monday.com, a project management system, was implemented and has enabled the agency to better organize and manage tasks, projects and teamwork.

  • The agency hosted its first ever virtual CreateAthon and generated $40,487 in donated work.

  • Capstone Companions, our mentorship program was organized for members to network within the agency.

  • Three clients joined the agency: The House Tuscaloosa, Altec and Parkinson Association of Alabama.

Today, our remote operations looks like 135 members, 10 clients and two on the way to becoming part of
