Work From Home *cue fifth harmony*

By Lizzie Dumas and Katie Hunt

It is no secret that since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, our world has largely shifted to Zoom-based meeting spaces. From classes to meetings to friends and family spending time together, we have had to learn to adjust to a virtual environment. Here are a few tips and tricks to making the most of your Zoom experience:

1. Create a distraction-free space to complete all of your Zoom meetings. If you don’t have a home office, find somewhere comfortable to sit with a table and chair. Don’t sit in your bed, mute notifications on your phone and laptop and turn off any other electronic devices around you.

2. Keep your camera on and your mic off.

In formal settings, always keep your camera turned on. This will keep you engaged and show respect to the host. Keeping your mic muted also shows respect to your peers by limiting the amount of distracting background noise.

3. Be on time. Be prepared.

Just like in-person meeting etiquette, always enter the Zoom meeting on time and be prepared for the topics you are going to discuss. Give yourself time to deal with any technical issues that may arise by entering your Zoom at least 5 minutes early.

Just because we are living in a virtual world does not mean that you cannot continue to make good connections and grow in your respective field. We hope these tips will help you make the most of your next Zoom meeting.
